We're Amy, Pat, and Jess - (Mum, Dad and Daughter) the family behind The Old Mill Collection. We're often asked how we started, so here goes...
It all started in a rather unexpected way back in 2021, when the world paused and we all wondered what to do with months of nothingness.
Our Simple Start
During those long days at home, Amy, began playing around with wax, experimenting with scents and wax in our kitchen. It was just something to pass the time initially, but soon, it became clear we had stumbled onto something special and something she really enjoyed. The thought of potentially starting a new business sparked a real joy in each of us.
Pat, who's been a joiner for over 30 years, absolutely loving working with wood, decided to get involved and creating oak chopping boards and placemats. The idea was to create something built to last and to be loved in homes for years.
And that was the start of what we now call 'The Old Mill Collection'.
Growing Into Our Roles
As our home began to fill with fragrances and wooden creations (as you can imagine), we all found our own roles naturally. Amy started to plan every detail behind the scenes from insurance to safety data sheets, financing along with heaps of testing testing and testing to ensure every scent was just right, every candle burned correctly and each melt exceed expectations!
Jess, who had just moved back up North from Cardiff, venturing into her own freelance Marketing Business, took on the challenge of introducing us to the world. From the website build to product shoots and social media content creation.
Pat, was busy building a big time workshop at our family home to create the perfect making space for both homeware and home fragrance products.
On the Road
Once everything was set up, and things started to open up again, we packed up our creations and took them to craft fairs across the UK. Meeting people who appreciated our work was incredibly rewarding—it gave us insights into what they loved and what we could do better. Every conversation, every piece of feedback helped us grow and refine our craft.
Where We Are Now
And here we are, year on year we strive to bring you more unique products like our one of a kind wax melt burners, pottery candles and diffusers and exceptional home scenting. Not only that, but ensuring we are being kind to the environment every step of the way.
The Old Mill Collection is more than just a business to us—it's a way of sharing a piece of our family with others. It's about creating products that add a bit of beauty and a lot of warmth to any space. We're excited to see where this journey will take us next and are so grateful to everyone who's joined us along the way and supported our creations so far.
